Watch Out for Dolphins

Last week New Haven got hit with a surprise dump of snow. And that meant the weather was finally chilly enough for me to wear the awesome companion hat to my Orca whale chapeau, this little dolphin number. Yup, I have a zany hat collection. Can you blame me?

When Bloggers Meet, Part 2

This Saturday I joined forces with some fellow CT bloggers (the lovable (and with a closet I would DIE for) Closet Fashionista, the incredibly stylish and fun Chic on the Cheap and the talented (and super sweet) Dela Chic) for a day of brunch and mimosas, shopping, and amazingly cool gift bags courtesy of Dela Chic. She’s a very talented crafter, I recommend checking out her Etsy shop. It was an amazing day that, of course, included a photo shoot on the beach in frigid and windy weather (hey, we’re fashion bloggers!). Here are a few shots of our day together.

Oscar Fashion Musings

Here are my Oscar fashion favourites:

This is one of the most stunningly beautiful gowns I've seen in a long time - Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford just looks radiant and so chic. This is how you wear a red carpet cape!

Jessica Chastain looks decadently Baroque in McQueen.

I adore this color on Maya Rudolph (in Johanna Johnson) and the beaded detailing on the sleeves is lovely.

I loved this navy and beaded gown on Leslie Mann (in Roberto Cavalli) and the high pony tail she sported was the perfect touch.

Rose Byrne looked very edgy and sleek in this sequin gown by Vivienne Westwood...although I find myself wishing that the shoes were different.

This is Alexandra Edenborough (aka Mrs Gary Oldman) and she is nothing short of stunning. I am having no luck finding a designer credit for her gown so please fill me in if you've come across one. UPDATE: I'VE BEEN TOLD THIS IS ROBERTO CAVALLI...AND I LOVE IT

I loved this Carolina Herrera on Tina Fey - and the updo and clean accessorizing made the look.

Milla Jovovich is elegant Old Hollywood perfection in this Elie Saab gown.

I fell in love with this vintage Dior number on Natalie Portman.

Octavia Spencer looked captivating in this perfectly fitted number by Tadashi Shoji.

And here are the looks that I was less enamoured with:

I am not in the camp of people who think Michelle Williams can do no wrong. She can. And she (or her stylist) did with this Louis Vuitton number. There are aspects of this that I love (the colour, the accessorizing, some aspects of the peplum - I like the ruffles on it but think the other detailing on the gown below the peplum is too much) but I mostly just can't get on board with this.

Why hello Jane Seymour. What time does your one woman Vegas revue start? I'm also not sure who designed this...so fill me in if you know.

I had really high hopes for Melissa McCarthy and this Marina Rinaldi was just disappointing, frankly. I don't think the colour is great for her and I just wish it had more structure.

I love this colour on Viola Davis and I love the natural hair but the bust detailing on this is...not good. Neither is the overworked lower portion of this Vera Wang gown.

Louise Roe, what are you doing? This Black Halo dress looks like a series of elaborately folded napkins attached to each other. And I'm not necessarily saying that's a bad thing (there are aspects of this that I find really interesting in  good way) but I'm not sold that it's working for her.

I was on the fence about this one, I really was. Everything below the neck is fabulous but the giant bow on Emma Stone's Giambattista Valli is ruining it for me. Also, I think Nicole Kidman wore it better in 2007.

Who made your list of hits and misses?

Brunch

This is what I wore to a Sunday brunch (which basically means I had two Bloody Maries and WAY too much quiche before noon). I scooped up this cardigan a few months ago at TJ Maxx and it’s fast becoming a go to piece in my closet – I’m powerless to resist a chunky wool sweater.

In unrelated news, merchandise (gently used items from my closet) is moving in the Sartorial Sidelines Shop so, if you haven't visited yet, use the button under the header to check it out.
