Chunky Cardigan Lady...It's the New Cat Lady

Ugh. I am starting to freak out a bit over my lack of a job in a few months. I am turning into a very depressive person who lives in chunky cardigans. It’s a sorry state to be in, albeit a comfortable one. And since the recent burst of spring weather in New Haven has turned into windy, rain, and rather chilly days as we transition into April, chunky cardigans and tights just seem pretty appropriate.

Business Blouse

Remember yesterday when I told you I like a good pussybow blouse? Yeah, I wasn’t messing around.

This blouse does mean business. In the sense that I've been wearing it a lot to teach, meet with students, and network with colleagues at recent conferences. And I mean business - it's only fitting that my blouse should as well.

Bow

Even though I scoff at the name, I really do love a good pussybow blouse, like this one from Joe Fresh. Such a stupid name though.

That said, I cleaned out my closet over the weekend and have decided to part with this blouse...I've got to make some room! That means that it's been listed in the Blog Shop (along with a ton of other great items).

Gainfully Unemployed

I can almost not believe that in 8 weeks or so I will be graduating with my PhD – you can’t tell it in these photos but I am walking around with an enormous grin on my face most days.

Even though I am going to be unemployed when I graduate.

Ugh. Okay, that puts a damper on things.

In slightly happier news, a blog look I posted was featured in a fashion  magazine...bizarrely it's a magazine from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, which is about 3 hours away from my hometown of Edmonton. Weird coincidence, no? Check it out here.

Spring Patterns

skirt: Jason Wu for Target / top: Jason Wu for Target / tights: Target / shoes: Spring

This is pretty bold for me (I don’t usually do florals) but I love these Jason Wu for Target separates so much that even I am willing to try something new. And the spring feel of these pieces is actually fairly fitting because, it's official: I’ve been hit with a bad case of spring fever! And patterns are where it's at this spring.

DC Bound

I’m actually in Washington DC now but here’s a little peak into the process of me packing my trusty suitcase and preparing to board the Amtrack train. I’m packing a cute blouse to wear under my suit for my conference presentation as well as a fun frock for cocktails and dinner with friends – and a pair of wedges which transition nicely from day to evening. I’ll also be traveling with my Cambridge Satchel and my leopard print toiletry bag. Lookout DC, my slightly scuffed suitcase (this baby has been to Boston, Chicago, LA, Denver, Salt Lake City, Edmonton, Vancouver, London, and on three trips to NYC!) are coming.

Capsule Plaid

Another of my Jason Wu for Target purchases…I may have gone a bit overboard with this capsule collection but I just adored so many of the pieces in it that it was hard to resist.

DC Bound

My cat-tacular cat ring courtesy of ModCloth. Isn’t it just the cutest?

Ignore the terrible state of my nails....
This Wednesday I'm getting the heck out of New Haven for a quick trip down to Washington DC for a conference. I haven't been back to DC since living there for three months back in 2009 while doing research for my dissertation and I happen to be presenting on the same panel at the conference as one of my old housemates from my time at the Folger Shakespeare Library (a delightful Scottish gent now based in Sheffield) so I am really excited to be able to catch up with him. I've also got a dinner, a lunch, and cocktails scheduled with several other old friends and fellow historians/literary scholars currently scattered around the US and Canada (including a good friend from my days at the University of Alberta) - it's shaping up to be a brilliant trip!

Finally, I shared these (and more) images on the Facebook page over the weekend, but these stunning shots of Kate Moss from the April issue of Vogue deserve to be showcased again. To. Die. For.

Versatility

I decided to wear this sleeveless top as a vest…belting it to add a bit more shape to the silhouette and layering it over a long-sleeved top. Don’t ever let people tell you I’m not versatile.

Recent Obsessions

I am obsessed with tops that feature ties and bows lately (and I am consciously refusing to use the term ‘pussy bow’ here).

I’m also starting to catch the spring weather bug and haunting ASOS/doing some online window shopping for summer pieces. Like these.

Shorts and Stripes

More of my Jason Wu for Target gets – normally I don’t make much of a fuss over the various capsule collections but I was just so smitten with this one that I simply had to have as many pieces from it as possible. Hence the pairing of the striped top and shorts.

Sequin Addict

I think sequins are replacing leopard print as my new fashion addiction. Can you blame me?
