It's Raining Cats

Because you KNOW I’m obsessed with cats…

I'm off tomorrow morning at 10 am in a UHaul bound for Canada - wish me luck! And I will be trying to blog along the way so watch for road updates here and on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram.

Heat Wave

The horrific humidity and heat of a New England summer is in full effect here in New Haven … suddenly being back in Canada seems very comfortable.

Coffee Date

I seriously can hardly believe that I am leaving New Haven, my home for the past years, to return home to Canada in less than 4 days! Yikes. I’m excited, terrified, sad to be saying goodbye to so many dear friends and colleagues, and eager to reconnect with friends and family back home.

And, on the subject of goodbyes, this is what I wore to a parting coffee date with a friend and fellow historian here in New Haven.

Farewell Ladies, Farewell

This Saturday I ventured out to the poshness of West Hartford for one last blogger meetup with Closet Fashionista, the Girly Bird, Chic on the Cheap, Dela Chic, and More Fruit Please before I leave Connecticut and head home to Canada.

We had an amazingly fun day lunching on crepes at La Petit France, browsed the accessory heaven that is Cheap Charlie and the thrifting paradise of Second Time Around (WAY out of my budget, unfortunately), then posed for a few outfits shots before heading off to the Nordstrom Rack and TJ Maxx. All followed by a delicious dinner and a little Chardonnay. I am really, really going to miss my outings with these lovely ladies.

eShakti Review

My closet is officially about 10 times more adorable thanks to eShakti and this lovely swan print frock that they sent me ... and I opted to use their custom sizing service so this baby fits like a glove.

If you haven’t checked out eShakti yet, you really should. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

Point Me to the Penny Slots Please

My magic leopard pants came out to play for one last poker party with friends before the helpmeet and I leave New Haven next week (I never did get a chance to wear them to the casino here, which is where I feel they really deserve to be strutted around in). Somebody please reassure me that I will find places to wear these ridiculous things in Edmonton…

Also, remember the ASOS Portfolio Envelope Clutch that appears in so many of my posts? Well, I'm dying to add this ASOS companion clutch to my collection:

Shoe Laziness

So I got dressed up for some drinks and dinner to celebrate my last few weeks in New Haven but then I got super lazy in the shoe department and paired my fancy pants dress (seriously, any amount of sheer on the bottom equals fancy pants for me) and opted for my Toms. I have no regrets.

Road Warrior

Belatedly, here are some shots from my recent travels in Boston, Concord, Salem, and Reading, MA. It’s all part of my farewell tour to the Northeast. It’s been an amazing 6 years and I was glad I was able to fit in a few more days of road tripping before I leave.

Salem. I want to point out that that whole town smells like incense.

Salem. That I am truly a witch will come as no surprise to those who know me well.

Any Hawthorne fans?

I am still kicking myself for not buying this when I discovered it in a Salem shop.

Yeah, this too.

It just isn't Salem without a trip to the Witch House.

And here are a few snaps from my weekend getaway in NYC. I spent most of the weekend in Brooklyn, staying with one of my best New Haven gal pals who relocated to the Prospect Park area to live with her girlfriend and then at my New Haven roomate’s boyfriend’s place a few blocks away (to rent a semi-decently large place in New Haven is pricey so, for the past three years my helpmeet and I have been shacking up with an amazing dude in the Italian department here who I am going to miss like nobody’s business back in Canada…and his boyfriend is an architect in the City who has an amazing apartment, hangs out with notable fashion photographers, knows all the best wine bar and brunch spots in town, and designed the Joe Fresh flagship store in Manhattan, so yeah, he’s pretty awesome). It was a laid back weekend of chilling with friends and drinking WAY too much wine and dirty martinis. But we did find a little time to explore, as you can see.
