All the Frills: Eleanor's First Birthday Party

Here are the promised photos of the little birthday party we threw Eleanor. It was a small gathering; we just invited a few immediate family members, I spent a bit of money buying some decorations that we can reuse for future parties (the theme of which actually wound up perfectly matching her party dress, so bonus!), and got some cupcakes and potato chips. From start to finish it was about a 1.5 hour party. But she had a great time opening her gifts, seeing her first sparkler, and generally just being the centre of attention.

Well, happy birthday to Eleanor then! She looks so cute in her little chair with all the presents around. When I'm going to have a kid I'm also going to make her birthday each year as I think it's a great bonding occasion for the entire family.

Aww, what a great first birthday! She looks like she was really getting into her gifts.

Not sure how I feel about the daughter who killed her father. I mean, it's his fault she was messed up, he was 87, so it's not like she took away his livelihood, and if she hadn't gotten greedy with his benefits, she probably would have gotten away with it. But it's greed that always gets people.

I can't stand people who are religious extremists. Or maybe anything extreme is bad.

I'm glad the girl who got bit by the shark seemed to take it in stride, but yeah, 'do it for the gram' is probably not a good way of life.

I have to say that I really don't think anyone needs a wildly elaborate birthday party - simple is best, even if Pinterest disagrees. This party looks adorable but it also looks like you had enough time (and sanity) left after planning it to actually enjoy it, which is no easy feat.

Yeah I read about the girl getting bite by sharks for the ‘gram, people do some really silly things for social media these days
