All the Frills: Eleanor, Eleanor, Eleanor

Sometimes Eleanor’s cuteness just blows my mind and makes my heart feel like it might explode.

She is so cute, and I also love the jacket she has on the last photo - nice print mixing! :)

I saw about the fire at the museum, I can't even imagine how much history would be lost with that one event!

On a happier note, I hope that you had a great weekend! The weather was lovely here, but it's quite cold again today.

My mom also dressed me in mostly boys clothes. At the time I hated in and in later life, rebelled, wearing all the pink things. But ultimately, I got over that and came to understand her decision totally. And I can honestly say I don't remember the last time I wore pink ;)

Eleanor is just so cute! And it's crazy how hard it is just to dress our children, and how we allow gender to dictate their lives from before they are even born. I have a lot of separate thoughts on this: while I believe everyone should be able to wear the clothes they want to wear, I don't understand why it should be more acceptable for a girl to wear boy things than a boy to wear girl things. Many years ago I was riding the train from boston to new haven and the woman sitting next to me had a baby. The baby was wearing jeans and I don't remember what color shirt. The woman asked me if I could hold the baby while she went to use the bathroom, I said yes, what is her name. She corrected me that he was a boy and seemed a little miffed at my assumption. But a baby is a baby and I don't see why you couldn't dress a baby girl in denim.

I wonder if gender really is such a fluid thing that if we treated one gender the way we treat the other, that the person could change? If girls grew up wearing tee shirts with diggers would more of them want to be construction workers? If boys wore tutus would more want to be ballerinas? The way we treat it certainly makes it seem so, why else would we be so rigid? A deep seated fear that by removing gender rolls we will upend our entire society.

There was a piece on Hidden Brain about a couple who wanted to raise their children in a gender neutral environment, which was pretty interesting.

Aw, Eleanor what a cutie pie!! The pics with the glasses are the BEST! And oh my what a devastating loss indeed hard to believe so much was lost in the fire, all that art, and history. Heartbreaking!! xo

Gah she is so damn cute! That picture with the glasses is making me so happy. I don’t get why people make a big deal about wearing more gender neutral things especially on babies. I wore my brothers hand me downs as a baby, no big deal.
The world is general is pretty awful, I am glad there are happy baby photos to balance out

Awww look at her teeth and that smile !!!
Interesting that you dress Eleonor in boys clothes. They are just clothes. At the end whatever came before us and "dictated" the rules is what leads. There is this garment and you are told that it is for women or men. For me this truncates the ability to think and get creative. I love the idea of a garment giving you endless possibilities, regardless of is intentional initial use.
