Crazy Town
Meet my new crazy town leggings. I fully intend to be buried in these things. They are beyond awesome. And, yes, my helpmeet doesn’t like to be seen in public with me when I wear them…but he can suck it.

Militarily
In hindsight I realize that this outfit has a vaguely para-military air to it but as semi-ridiculous as I am fully aware such things are, I still totally love this combination of items and will definitely be pairing these pants and jacket together again.

Let's Get Nuts
Big news! The helpmeet and I invested in a new car! Even though it’s only been a year since we picked up our awesome 2003 Ford Focus (I call her DMC, for Driving Miss Courtney), now that I’m learning to drive I find mastering standard insanely hard (I can do it but not well and just don’t see myself ever really feeling confident as a driver in a standard) and so we did a little sleuthing and found that, with the deal my helpmeet can get through work and the trade in value of our current car we can get a pretty new automatic at an AMAZING price. In celebration of this discovery, I donned what I’ve taken to referring to as my “party-times” shirt. Don’t ask.

Rainy Days
Personally, I love me a good rainy day (which we've had quite a few of in Edmonton this summer). Especially in a non-humid climate (you know, so my head doesn’t look like one giant frizz ball). For some reason I always feel more productive when it’s a bit cold and rainy out. For example, the day this photo was taken I put in 10 hours at my office (I’m working on a big project and stayed late) and then did 3 hrs of work on my conference paper for this October’s North Eastern Conference on British Studies. I'll be dazzling the crowd with my musings on reconciliation and mediation in early modern England. Get excited!

Compromise
This is about as far I budge on the issue of fun summer prints – polka dots on a black background. I promise, I’ll stop being so catty about summer soon…I just to get it out of my system this week.

August Long
So I spent my August long weekend in Vancouver, BC, staying with my BFF and her helpmeet and their adorable pug puppies. We watched beach fireworks, got loud and obnoxious on business juice and wandered the streets, celebrated Pride in style (seriously, check out those hats – which, FYI, we had to engage in an elaborate con game in order to snag), and hit the casino (hello Kitty Glitter! Although this time my big slots win was courtesy of my new spirit animal, Thundering Buffalo). I had an amazing, amazing time.
How did you spend August Long?

Ugh. Summer.
Remember what I said in my last post about not really loving summer fashion and preferring to stick with my fall and winter duds all year round? Yeah, I meant it.

Summer Wheeling and Dealing
As I’m sure is fast becoming apparent through a casual perusal of my past posts, I’m not a big fan of summer. I don’t much like florals and spring colors and tend to wear my fall and winter wardrobe year round. So tossing on this bright orange blazer was a compromise with summer on my part. I wear the blazer and summer stays out of my way. That’s the deal.
