All the Frills: Arrow Themed Parure

This was totally not intentional but I somehow wound up with a parure of arrow themed jewellery. I mean I guess it’s not technically a parure as they weren’t intended to be worn together and were all made separately by different brands, but they’ve sure become one now!

Green, Green, Green!

I’ve noted on this blog and in a few other places, several times, that I needed to get some green into my closet. So when I stumbled across this dress (marked down to $20), it was basically like the stars had aligned.

The Cape Controls Me Now

I’ve taken my sartorial obnoxiousness to a new level…guys, I got a cape! I think the smug look on my face says it all…

All the Frills: Spooky Sweater

'Tis the season (Halloween, I mean) for my favourite sweater! I would seriously live in this thing if I could.

From Running Errands to Work

I put this outfit together to run errands and grocery shop but now that I’m looking at the photos of it, I think I’m going to pop it out for work – it’s definitely a good office look. I also found a spot on my driveway that has no snow, so I'm pretty pleased with myself.

I also appreciate that my hair actually looks not half bad in these photos – I used that hair straightening brush I reviewed recently when I styled it and that thing is really working for me. I worked out that if I brush the underside of my hair and then do a sweet hair flip I get some great body.

Where Has All the Daylight Gone?

I wore this out to a friend’s house in order to hang out with my BFF who was visiting from Vancouver. Unfortunately it was thoroughly dark by then and I couldn’t get decent photos. I’ll have to recreate this during the day, minus the sandals now that we have snow on the ground here.

All the Frills: Double Rings

First I applied my “heir and a spare” theory of clothing and accessory shopping to bracelets, then sandals. Now it’s jewellery’s turn! I mean, how could I not need two of these awesome rings?

Studs for the Office

I absolutely adore this blazer – I don’t wear it nearly enough but it is definitely a personal favourite of mine (carrying a purse with a shoulder strap is a challenge though, I won’t sugar coat that).

Product Review: Hair Straightening Brush

So I have some of the most problematic hair in the league. I have a fair amount of it, but it’s incredibly fine in texture which means it tangles very easily, I always have a ton of fly aways, and it usually just looks not all that great.

When I style it, I opt for either putting some large random curls in it (mostly just to give it shape and the illusion of thickness) or using a straightener to just embrace its naturally straight nature. But I find the hair straightener usually leaves weird kinks or somehow tangles it.

So, when Irresistible Me gave me the opportunity to try out their Jade Hair Straightening Cermaic-Tourmalene Brush, I was seriously all over it. My brush, which is a gorgeous green colour (I know that’s not at all important, but I really do love the colour) arrived in the mail and I took it out for a spin.

Overall, I was really impressed with this hair straightening brush. It worked much better than the straightener I usually use – it straightened my hair very well and I didn’t wind up with the kinks and tangles that I usually get. My one and only criticism (and it’s a pretty small one) is that the temperature control and on/off button are located in the space where I typically grip a brush as I use it, so I kept accidentally adjusting the temperature as I used it. But that’s just me holding a brush like a doofus.

Overall, I definitely loved this brush and I am glad to have it in my arsenal of styling tools!

It has arrived!

I seriously love the colour....

It's surprisingly light weight

The wide "bristles" helped a lot in preventing tangles

The "before" shot - plenty of fly aways

All the Frills: Halloween Countdown

As you may be aware, I get ridiculously excited around this time of year – because it’s almost Halloween!!!!!! This past week I got out all my Halloween decorations and now I’m totally basking in the creepiness of it all.

Weekend Reading:

  • My work as a historian centres on a period in which the Julian calendar was still used (the Gregorian calendar made its debut in 1582 but wasn’t adopted in Britain until 1752). I’ve always found it sort of fascinating that, because of this, if I’m working a document dated to say February 3, 1589 (as in that’s the date the original author wrote down), I have to mark it as February 3, 1589/1590….because for us the new year started on January 1 but under the Julian calendar it started on March 25. I feel like I’m doing a bad job of explaining this. These short pieces do a better job.

Weekend Office Attire

So I recently had to go into work on a Saturday to give a presentation (it’s a long story). I tried to temper it being the weekend with needing to display a modicum of professionalism in my attire. This is thus the mullet equivalent of weekend office wear – party in the bottom, business up top.

Leopard, Leopard, Leopard!

Now that the weather has cooled off (see ya, summer!), I can start pulling out all my fall pieces – which include this awesome leopard print number I acquired last year when I went to Scotland. Every time I wear this I have find memories of that trip…and immediately start thinking that I need to plan another trip!
