Fall or Spring?

This is my favourite fall dress (the colours and pattern just scream “autumn” to me), worn for a cool spring day. And, actually, nature’s spring colour palette in my corner of the world is very similar to its fall colour palette so it’s actually pretty appropriate.

All the Frills: Salvation Bookshelves

Now that Eleanor is basically into everything, I’m so glad we switched all our low bookshelves over to high ones so that I can put my collection of nicer imprint books, a handful of which are legitimately valuable and are editions from the nineteenth-century, away from her grabby hands. Isn’t it great when an aesthetic investment turns out to have very real practical value? Now I just have to keep an eagle eye out for any attempts to climb the bookshelf...

The Last Wear

I really love the way this shirt looks (the blush colour is lovely, especially set against my predominantly black wardrobe) but the reality is that it just doesn’t fit me all that well and never has. So this will be its last wear…

All the Frills: Earrings on Repeat

I somehow managed to wind up with three pairs of very similar climber earrings (one I purchased, two were gifts). Good thing I’m currently obsessed with climber earrings I suppose.

Sequins and Boots

Thigh high boots seemed like the most appropriate thing to pair with this athletic wear-esque dress with a silver sequin stripe down the arm. I mean my black Converse would have worked too but I sort of love it with the boots.

The Closest I Could Get to Actual Pajamas

Worn for an extremely long day when I just wanted to be comfortable but also didn’t want to go full on pajamas. I think this served perfectly.

A Rare Outing in Jeans

I’m not much a jeans wearer (you may have noticed that they almost never make an appearance in this space) but every so often I’ll dust off my single pair that fits great and which I will never part with. It seems an especially apt choice when my day at work involves moving around a bunch of office furniture to reconfigure a space.

All the Frills: Is There Such a Thing as Too Many Sequins?

Last month I was worried I was amassing too many velvet and velour pieces. Clearly my real problem is sequins…

Weekend Reading:

  • I really miss Yale Beinecke’s Library. During my six years at Yale, I was at the Beinecke at least once a month for the Thursday evening Early Modern Colloquium lecture series and then I also did a two month fellowship there, wherein I spent every day sitting in the reading room and looking at their paper collections – not to mention all the other, less regular exhibits and lectures I attended there. It’s just a fantastic place!
  • This is really solid parenting advice.
  • While these jackets are, I’m sure, WAY out of my price range, they are beautiful; and it’s just such a good idea for a collaboration.
  • Another amazing property that the wealthy me that occupies some other dimension has just purchased.
  • The first recorded use of the “f” word.

Rushing, Rushing, Rushing

I was in such a hurry the morning that I took these photos (Eleanor overslept a bit and we were in a mad panic to get out the door on time) that I forget to zip up my shoes. I honestly didn’t even notice until I’d been at work for a good couple of hours. Yikes, this week is off to a great start.

Shawl Hassles

I guess the red plaid pattern breaks up my usually all-black outfit? I enjoy this shawl but its definitely a hassle to wear around the office – I somehow manage to get it tangled on the arms of my desk chair, doors close on it when I go to and from meeting spaces, and don’t get me started on what happens when I try to use the office sink…
