The Biggest Jackass In The Room
In continued pursuit of my life’s ambition to the biggest jackass in any and every room, I got another sequinned jacket from Amazon! And I promptly wore it out to dinner with work mates where I was most definitely the sparkliest person in the restaurant.

Necklace Love
I’m also a sucker for a chunky statement necklace – and this one, purchased years ago in Scotland, just makes me happy.
I mean look at this younger, tinier version of me galavanting around Scotland in it. Ah, memories.

Comfort Coat
I’m a sucker for a statement sleeve, and (unsurprisingly) a good black jacket. The recent spate of rainy weather here (all last week, now we've got a heat warning) allowed me to indulge myself fully with a more fall appropriate jacket. Honestly, fighting a vicious head cold (they say that for the first couple of years after you're child starts daycare it’s normal to get sick like 10 times a year and that totally tracks) also made curling up in a warmer jacket, even in late June, a pretty appealing prospect.

All the Frills: Returning To My Bookshelf
Regular readers of this blog will know I am somewhat of a bibliophile and love few things more than interesting/old book prints. I’ve long wanted a set of Agnes Strickland’s Lives of the Queens of England, a set of volumes which are about as Victorian as one can get. So, of course, I was beyond thrilled when one was gifted to me for Christmas a few years ago. It’s definitely a centrepiece of my book collection.

Eleanor's 2nd Birthday
I’m bummed the lighting for these photos wasn’t a bit better (I did a killer job with my false eyelashes, which usually I’m a disaster at, as much as I love wearing them for special occasions) but, regardless, this is what I wore to host Eleanor’s 2nd birthday party!
It was a small affair with close family and a few friends (unfortunately most of my other friends with kids had prior bookings (summer is busy!) so it was basically all adults) but we had a wonderful time and Eleanor wore the most adorable dress. I actually bought it a few months before she was born and have been waiting for her to grow into it…

Joggers to the Rescue
The weather was still a little blah and I booked a “vacation” day to run around like a maniac getting everything ready for Eleanor’s birthday. Joggers and sneakers seemed like the most appropriate choice for that.

All the Frills: A Little Dior
I recently headed a few hours south to attend a work conference (it was the annual meeting of the professional association for student association managers – sounds thrilling, no?). It was actually a super interesting conference because student associations in Ontario are currently under attack and financial constraint thanks to Ford’s Student Choice Initiative (and, unfortunately, Alberta’s UCP party seems poised to implement something similar, meaning my job, my association, and all my staff and the services we provide to our members are also under threat). It’s a nerve-wracking situation and it was really wonderful to gather with colleagues and share strategies. But it was also the longest I’ve been away from Eleanor since she was born and that was rough. What made things a bit more bearable, aside from Facetiming her twice a day, was sneaking in a visit to Calgary’s stunning Glenbow Museum to see their exhibit on Dior. So get ready for a deluge of photos….
