An Afternoon at the Athenaeum

After four years of living a 45 minute drive away from Hartford I finally made a trip to the Wadsworth Athenaeum, one of Hartford’s best art museums. Despite the rain, it was a fantastic day (I saw an amazing light installation piece that just totally wowed me and took in the Reunited Masterworks exhibit which reunited art pieces spanning four centuries that were executed as pairs but later split up and located in different collections). Afterwards I took a stroll through the city’s central graveyard (which is the resting place of early puritan settlers and has grave stones dating back to the seventeenth century). I did learn one valuable lesson though: don’t go wandering through graveyards in the rain wearing heeled boots – I must have punctured a thousand divots in that graveyard, sorry puritans!

I am such a sucker, lover, admirer, consumer... also doer of art that my heart jumped sky-high when I read this wonderful post. The light installation and the Jackie Kennedy pop art piece just gave me the sweet push for today. Thanks sweetie!

It really was a wonderful gallery - I am a fan of Pre-Raphaelite art and they had a lovely Edward Burne-Jones on display as well as William Holman Hunt's version of the Lady of Shallot, which was amazing to see in person! And the light installation was nothing sort of fabulous.

I love these photos. It has been too long since I've gone to an art museum. I love visiting old graveyards, they are so peaceful.

Your probably going to hell for puncturing the puritans graves. lol. Was the lady of shallot painting one of the posters you had?
