This was my jaunty little Christmas day outfit – I drove up to Lowell MA with my helpmeet (well he drove because I have never had (and hope never to have) a driver’s license) for dinner and a slumber party with some grad school friends. It was a perfect day of food, wine, horror movies, and a Donkey Kong marathon.
But when we drove home the next day we got hit with a blizzard on the road.

I love those blue shoes!
I wish you well with your goal of never having a driver's license. Are you going to limit your job search to major metropolitan areas?
I just realized that question might have come off as snide. I definitely didn't mean it that way! I am just curious how you think you might manage it logistically if you end up somewhere, like say, College Station, TX or Mount Vernon, OH. I have found that living in a smallish town with poor public transit that even having one car presents scheduling difficulties.
My hope is that I always live somewhere with a) public transport or b) where things are mostly walking/biking distance. If it comes to it I will get a license and a car but my parents (both from very rural areas) are also lifetime non-drivers and so I'm really used to not driving and not having regular access to a car - we're a family of cyclists, walkers, bus-takers, and cab-riders!
Your peacoat and purse are so cute!! And wow, glad you guys are okay after the blizzard! xoxo
@La Historiadora de Moda - I totally didn't think it was snide at all! It's something that I get asked about quite frequently and that my husband and I discuss often. In the end I'm totally flexible on the car thing (securing a job is the top priority and it really is necessary in a lot of situations) but I'm a horribly nervous driver and the prospect of it scares me...so I hope it doesn't come to that, but I'll deal if it does.
Well, fingers crossed for an awesome tenure-track job in a place with good public transit! (For both of us)
I love your blue shoes! We had snow over the holiday too, it made it so festive! Donkey Kong marathon = awesomeness :)
I love your coat and your shoes, I'm looking for a coat like that with a little longer, so it look more like a dress. Loving the whole look

Your shoes are to.die.for. Absolutely gorgeous.
And, yes, I study 17th and 18th century British literature, specifically John Milton as of right now. I'm sure our respective areas of focus overlap in quite a few places.

Great outfit...reminded me of Amelie! And kudos on getting through that blizzard without any car damage. I'd probably still be on top of a snow bank crying out for help :p
Thank you so much for your sweet comment by the way, it really means a lot to hear that sort of feedback! :)

I do not envy you having to drive through that blizzard. I'm glad you made it home safe and sound! I actually got stuck in Florida with all the snow. I guess I can't complain, if there's a place to be in a snow storm, it's warm, sunny Florida.
Love this outfit ! The shoes are Great. They add the perfect pop of color.
That road would scare the heck out of me. I would not be able to drive in that. Glad you are safe.
Cute coat! I love your whole outfit, one of my faves of yours.
