Ombre For Me

I’m too scared to try ombre in my hair so I opted for pants instead – hey, it’s still ombre.

Readers know that this sort of a transitional year for me, I’m in the process of writing my dissertation and, while I do that, I am generously funded and so am not teaching or really having any interaction with students (which, I admit, I really really miss) but at the end of May everything changes and I will be teaching again, hitting the conference circuit hard core in advance of being on the job market and, when that happens, hopefully securing interviews for myself. This year really is the last one for me in which to do something bizarre with my hair or put off buying a tailored lady suit for another three months – it’s both liberating and terrifying.

On another note, I really, really miss Christmas lights. I sort of wish I hadn’t taken mine down…

But I am slightly cheered by the fact that I had a wonderful time at my conference in Boston. I travelled there with a friend and we had a lovely day of meeting other historians and just taking it all in. I reconnected with a lot of friends and professional acquaintances and also had the chance to meet the wonderful La Historiadora de Moda from Fashionable Academics who graciously bought me a much-needed a drink and let me pick her brain about all things job market related.

I love the pants! This is the first ombre pair I've seen. I hope you secure a lot of interviews, you're a smartie so I'm sure that won't be too hard for you ; ) Good luck!

You could totally pull off ombre hair! If you scared, just try some streaks of it first.

Haha I love your little quip at the start of the post! I'm going ombre (with my hair) once I make some $$$.

And I find it so admirable that you can be stuck in dissertation hell while maintaining this lovely blog among other things! My boyfriend's in the process of his Communications one now and he's practically miserable, haha.

There is something so relaxing about Christmas lights. I miss them, too.
Good luck writing your dissertation. I'm sure it is difficult not to have student interaction in the classroom, but the key to research grants/funding is to eliminate as many distractions to allow you as much focus on the dissertation as possible. It doesn't always work that way, but that is the main goal.
I'm sure you will do great. :)

Love your hair and the photos are so beautiful.

You're definitely right Bonnie - I've been full time writing for six months now though so I'm sort of past the point of really needing intense focus and I miss having students of my own, putting together seminars for them and grading papers really kept me on my toes!

aww christmas lights are lovely; although i think they lose part of their magic when they are no longer in season. those pants are great!!! and i'm sure you will find a great job - sounds like with your generous funding that you're the kinda historian people want to hire (:

Love the ombre! And I love Christmas lights, I wish we could have them year 'round. Maybe you'll get a job in Savannah! But no good schools are here really. :(

I'd be tempted to try ombre if my hair were longer right now.

The last thing I did before I left for Boston was to take down my Christmas tree and drop it off to be recycled.

Best of luck with your dissertation and the job hunt after! I'm just starting to realize that I'm going to graduate very soon and I need to join the job search too! Also, I miss Christmas lights too and love that picture with the ferris wheel! :)
