Bon Voyage My Ivory Friend

This is totally a lazy post on my part but, because we are moving and I don’t plan on wearing it again unless as a part of a zombie Halloween costume, I’ve decided to donate my wedding gown to charity. And this is my letter of goodbye to that off-the-rack gown that I plucked from a sale bin at a place called Denilore Bridal in the wilds of Edmonton. It was a steal of deal and served me well on that day.

(and I even managed to squeeze myself into one more time before we part ways)

and so I bid it a fond adieu and hope that it finds a good new home. For my married readers, have you kept your wedding dress and why/why not?

aww, goodbye dress and I love this post you look SO gorgeous!!

As for mine? I kept my dress. I just couldn't imagine parting ways with it. I had it cleaned put it in a display box and it sits in my walk in closet (very small walk in closet) ;-)

Best of luck with the move. xx veronika

I think my mom gave away her dress, but I wish she kept hers, I totally would have worn it, it was so gorgeous!
Have a great day!

You look so lovely in your wedding dress!! I've been wondering the very thing you're asking today. I am getting married this Saturday(!) and I'm trying to figure out what to do with my dress afterwards. Sell it while it's still new and in style? Or keep it? For what? Decisions decisions!

Aww you look sooo ecstatic! And I think its really nice you're donating it to charity. Someone has the chance to look as beautiful as you were in it!

I love your wedding pictures! Beautiful tiara and necklace to.
I kept mine but its not bulky so it doesn't bother me and I only get to see it when I move and I haven't move (thank God) in the past 7 years .... in my case I think with a little DIY work it can be a nice corset or summer dress.....

These are Great pictures and that is a really pretty dress. I didn't bother buying a wedding dress. I just wore slacks and a top from Macys. I spent all of my money on a Tarina Tarantino Hello Kitty Wedding Tiara lol.

I spotted your name on about every blog I checked today so I just had to come by ^^ I am not married, I am still a little young for that, but I know my mom kept her wedding dress. It has become a little greyisch over time. It's a very nice thing to donate your dress to charity! x

Are you sure you don't want to keep it? Are you going to regret giving it away in the future? It's so beautiful, I think if I were in your shoes i wouldn't be able to part ways with it!

Beautiful pics, love!

I have kept my wedding dress, even though it takes up a TON of space. I am sure part of keeping it is sentimental, but above all I want to wear that lovely text-book definition of "Disney Princess Meets Cream Puff in Sparkle Factory" some day with black gloves, a ladies' black top hat, black Victorian booties, false eyelashes of ridiculous proportions, and maybe a feather boa, with the back rebustled to do that Victorian Mighty Bum look.

So, until such a day arrives, the dress stays.

You were a stunning bride! I love that the dress still fits you. That's awesome! I don't blame you for giving it to charity. After all, like you said you are never going to wear it again and I'm sure some girl with little money would be thrilled to purchase that gorgeous gown for her wedding at such a cheap price! xoxo

What a stunning dress- I love your goofy wedding pics! I think that's a great idea to donate the dress because it's like a prom dress- you probably won't wear it again.

Aww, you looked so lovely on your wedding day!
I think you went about getting your dress the right way - i can't stand the idea of spending piles of money on a dress you'll wear once...

AND YOU HAVE A TIARA! I shouldn't be surprised. You look beautiful in the dress, and its such a wonderful thing to donate it to someone who can't afford something new on their special day. I'd probably donate mine, since its not like you can wear it out to dinner or anything...unless you did...in which case I wouldn't drink red wine...

OMG! Such a Gorgeous dress! You were a beautiful bride. I get married next year (as you know) and I will buy and dress and then re-sell it for sure! Unless a millionaire lottery by then, then I might not.

You look absolutely gorgeous!!! I am single but I imagine that should I ever get hitched, I will def keep mine. I have trouble throwing away holey jeans so I can't really see me getting rid of my wedding dress. Unless I get divorced...

Don't have a boyfriend, yet here I am - planning my divorce. Maybe THAT's why I dont have a bf. ooops...

Courtney, what a great thing to do! You look lovely in your dress! And the wedding pics you posted are AWESOME!

I have my dress somewhere at my parents' house... It's funny because my ceremony was more for my parents than for myself. I wanted an Alice in Wonderland wedding, and they wanted a church wedding. Our compromise= I wear white and we actually have a ceremony, even if it was ministered by a non-Christian. haha.

Aww...maybe you can convert your wedding dress into something more wearable everyday? :) I remember Project Runway had a task like that before.

pretty dress! that's great that you can fit yours (although it's going bye bye... just nice to know!). i have mine. i always planned to dye it. it was super duper plain because it wasn't really a wedding dress, just a cream colored long gown from Macy's. i love it. i could wear it to a party if only it still fit! damn i was skinny!
