Trendy

Remember how I said I was getting out in front of the trends this year (all the trends – so look out color blocking, I’m coming for you!)? Well, I wasn’t joshing you (“joshing you,” alongside “barf” and “do me a solid” is an amusing expression that I feel has lapsed in society and so I am on a one-woman quest to bring it back into everyday parlance – join the insanity won’t you?).

faux leather jacket: Macys / maxi dress: Old Navy / lace top: ModCloth

Also, the MET Costume Institute’s Gala!!! This year it opens the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibit (which I will be traveling to NYC to see sometime in the next few weeks) and, as one would expect, the fashion was amazing. Here were some of my favorites.

Sarah Jessica Parker in Alexander McQueen

Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen

Rihanna in Stella McCartney

Taylor Swift in J Mendal

Eva Mendes in Stella McCartney

Emma Stone in Lanvin

Daphne Guinness in Alexander McQueen

Christina Ricci in Zac Posen

Hamish Bowles in a fitting McQueen tribute

I love that maxi skirt! The cobalt looks great with the leather jacket.

As for the Met Ball, a lot of the dresses were stunning, but I'm a little disappointed that more people didn't wear McQueen! I was kind of hoping that Sarah Jessica Parker would wear one of his tartan pieces as some sort of nod towards the plaid dress she wore when she attended the gala with him a few years back. The dress she's wearing is obviously gorgeous, but a little too "safe"!

First of all, I love your outfit. I've been putting my leather jacket over everything lately. I like it best with dresses or anything floral where it feels a little bit unexpected. Next, on the met ball - I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the outfits. They didn't have the same incredible fanciful creativity of years past. I did, however, really love Anna Wintour's dress. It looked every 70's chic.

The maxi, the color block and to top it off-- cobalt blue! That's what I call embracing the trends. :) Love it!
