Sweater Weather
I’m wearing one of my favourite sweaters, and one that never seems to make many appearances (even though I wear it all the time) because it’s always so dark by the time I get home for photos. And today was no exception with respect to how dark it was when I finally made it home from the office…you guys, February basically kicked my ass and March is not looking much better. Ugh.

All the Frills: Wedded Bliss
So yesterday was my 10-year wedding anniversary! Which is sort on bonkers, in that I can't believe that I've been married to my amazing and wonderful helpmeet for that long (and we've now been together for over 15 years...which I find equally nutty). It only seemed fitting to dedicate this post to our anniversary.
Weekend Reading:
- Why haven't all countries made street harassment a crime (she asks rhetorically)?
- This is sort of fun - I mean, as far as Oscar-themed quizzes go...
- Why are airplane windows round?
- I am beyond excited to see this movie, The Witch
- This article on Warren Jeffs makes me want to read Under the Banner of Heaven again. If you haven't read that book, I really recommend it. Scary stuff.

Things You Could Wear Every Damn Day
This pale pink leopard print jacket was seriously the greatest thing I purchased while in Scotland, maybe all year. I would wear this every single day if I thought I could get away with it. The fact that it’s really cozy also helps a lot.

Fatigue
A couple of posts ago I mentioned how thrilled I was to have been gifted a pair of 20-hole Docs for Christmas. Well, the love affair continues!
Focusing on the other content here, this was worn on the one Monday a month when the governing body of the organization I work for meets. For like 3 hours and then it takes us another hour to pack up after the meeting and then an hour for me to get home. And the meeting starts at 6 pm. After I've been at the office since 8 am and have to be there at 8 am the next morning. Yeah, it's basically awful. I think the fatigue shows in my facial expression.

All the Frills: Fussiness
I tend to be really anal and detail oriented when it comes to my jewellery. I think I might actually spend more time fussing over the details of accessories than I do on putting together actual outfits. It’s weird. Anyways, this was the end result of me carefully curating my accessories one evening in advance of the next day (that’s right, I’m a lay-my-clothes-out-the-night-before kind of gal). Does anyone else get as fussy about the details as I do?

Weekend Reading:
- What the hell is wrong with people? Seriously?
- This piece on rape culture and the need for a culture of nurturance is brilliant.
- A cookbook for Bentham’s Panopticon!!!!
- God I love Value Village ... and want all the books mentioned here (empowering the tribe indeed).
- Are you a Bosch fan? Well, this is for you!

Winter Wrap Up
We've had some unseasonably warm weather lately so a lot of the snow in those photos (which were taken not even a week ago, after a liberal snowfall) is now mostly gone. I think winter here is drawing to a close and, considering my love for the season, I'm a little bummed. I am not ready for spring...

All the Frills: Pants Party
Those who know me best will know that I am a pretty obnoxious person, and unapologetically so. That’s why these pants were basically made for me. They are loud, and goofy, and perfect.

Weekend Reading
- A lot of press has been devoted to this ridiculous group, Return of Kings, and their despicable and disgusting views on women, rape, gender politics, and gay rights. But they are just the most ostentatious example of our society’s ongoing war on women, almost a caricature and easily dismissible because of it. And while I’m of course thrilled with the public outcry against this group, the more challenging issue will always be the less overt, far more insidious forms of misogyny that riddles so many facets of our society and culture – let’s start challenging that as boldly and loudly as we challenge these jokers.
- So this wine glass is awesome, but this write up on it is even better.
- Anyone else loves the Simpsons while also being deeply unsettled by Netflix’s Making a Murderer? Vulture has you covered!
- Male characters introduced as though they were female ones. I love this!
- Institutional academia depresses me sooo much you guys. Especially because, until I clued in to how happy I could be in another field, I legitimately did put things like starting a family on hold. For years! It’s beyond demented.

Thrifted Leopard Print
Those who know me well know I can’t resist leopard print – so I was pretty thrilled when I spotted this shirt at Value Village. It’s a pretty big win for me guys.
Excuse the exceedingly crappy quality of the photos. It's been a rough week. I am majorly struggling with a final set of revisions to an article which has been tentatively accepted for publication. It's getting to be a very frustrating experience. And of course I still need to start my book revisions. Which I'm dreading.

Elation
So I got some amazing news recently – the most recent academic press I sent my book proposal too asked for a copy of the complete manuscript (this was back in July) and send it out to peer reviewers. The editor emailed me shortly before Christmas to say that the readers’ reports were all favourable and recommended publication!!!! Fast forward a month and I just signed an advance contract! Now it’s a ways away from actually being published and a lot of things could derail it (ie, the editorial board or the manuscript review committee could vote not to publish, regardless of the favourable reports, they could not like the revisions that I do (the readers recommended that some things get changed), etc, etc) but I’m thrilled that the readers actually appreciated my work and think it should be out there in the world!
Now I have to really buckle down and work on revisions, which I've committed to finishing by mid-April.
Anyways, this is what I was wearing when I got the news…

All the Frills: The Stag-Themed Bowl
My life may now be complete – I have a semi-ridiculous silver bowl with stag handles, like some kind of nineteenth-century Scottish grandee decorating a country house. And that's about the best kind of grandee one can aspire to be.

Weekend Reading:
- Yeah, words have a history. And like most other facets of history, it’s often not kind to women.
- This article on street harassment (and the broader issue of the treatment of women generally in our society) is well worth a read.
- Well, aren’t the Dutch just the greatest?
- I guess the new Barbie dolls are progress...
- This movie about Nat Turner sounds amazing, right to down to its appropriated title.

Another Round of Revisions
Worn to a recent family dinner, scheduled around an afternoon of article revisions (it's been accepted for publication, I just need to get through a chunk of revisions!).
Seeing these reminds me that I really need to get that holiday wreath down off the front door. I keep forgetting it's there and totally missed it when I was packing up all my other Festivus junk.

Pizza and Glitter
I wore this to a little get together with some friends – we all got together for pizza while we pretended to be fancy. I was pretty pleased when I spotted this glittery skirt at a thrift store (I'm pretty sure it's basically new and only worn a few times). I also wore it all day at work and it definitely brought a little brightness to my day.
