Pregnancy as Performative

Guys, when these photos were taken, I swear all I was thinking was “seriously, I can’t take much more … please let this be over soon!” I am unabashedly not one of those women who had a good experience of pregnancy. I know some do and that’s great for them, but that was definitely not me (and the fact that some people kept tut tutting me and saying how sad it was that I wasn’t enjoying pregnancy actually served to make me irritable and resentful – I swear society excepts women to “perform” pregnancy with a smile and a “glow” and people react like it’s some woeful situation when that’s not what happens, even though it’s a pretty common experience for many women). I don’t think I had one time in the entire nine months where I felt comfortable. Sigh. Sorry, not sorry, rant over!

Haha yea, that's why I don't want to actually go through the process of having a baby. I don't think I would enjoy it either really, ESPECIALLY not the giving birth part. So I'll just become rich and hire a surrogate (hah...like that will ever happen)

I don't think I have ever imagined, even for a second, that pregnancy would be a pleasant experience - and, to be honest, I've always suspected anyone who said otherwise was lying at least a little bit. That said, I've obviously found your take on pregnancy particularly refreshing ;)

First, it's been a while since I've been here so I must congratulate you on the pregnancy! Seriously, so happy for you.

Second, one of my friends just gave birth two months ago, and from what I gathered, she did not enjoy her pregnancy either. She couldn't wait for it to be over. So it's definitely common and other people shouldn't bother you about it. It's natural. I mean, how could you not feel uncomfortable when carrying a person inside your stomach for almost an entire year. That's crazy, lol!

I too find it quite refreshing to hear t about some truth about the entire experience - focusing on the positive: it's over ;)
