All the Frills: Advent Calendar

I meant to feature this advent calendar earlier in December but it sort of worked it out well to feature it after the month was over so that all the pieces were on the tree. This advent calendar, a tree with little felt ornaments that you velcro on, is one of my dearest possessions. I remember purchasing it at a craft fair with my mother when I was a girl and we hung it every year in December. At some point it passed from my parents to me (maybe when I moved out on my own, maybe when I moved to Connecticut, maybe when my parents sold their house for a condo downtown … who knows). For the past few years it’s been in a rather tattered state (velcro coming off the back of some of the pieces, etc) so last year I asked my helpmeet, as a birthday present, to take it to a tailor and get it all patched up and fixed. I had so much fun with Eleanor this year as we decorated in daily. She wasn’t totally sure what was going on and wanted to pull off all the ornaments and rearrange them daily, but I made a big to do each morning about putting another ornament on the “tree” and clapping for it and cheering her on. In short, I’m so glad I’ve held onto it for all these years.

That is so cute, I love it! Glad you were able to get it fixed!
We have something similar, but it's a santa peg board where you add a little ornament date each day until Christmas, hehe D

The best thing about this advent calendar is that you don't get a present but instead are invited to place an ornament on the tree- In this case it created an activity with you and Eleanor to cherish.
All other advent calendars that i have seen are with chocolate treats. Yours is way much better, plus it has that family history that is hard to beat

Oh that is a beautiful advent calendar! I like that you don't get the extra sugar you get from the chocolatey ones, and it looks so pretty! :) It's nice you could get it fixed and use it together with your daughter :)

Hope that you are having a wonderful weekend :) Our summer heatwave is continuing, today we are just resting at home in the aircon!

I used to love advent calendars, I always had the paper ones - bonus if there was glitter. At one point I got a Nutcracker calendar which had 25 little book ornaments which told a few bits of the story each day. Maybe if I have children someday I can do it with them.

It's wonderful your helpmeet got it fixed up for you so that Eleanor could enjoy it too.

This looks amazing, I want to be crafty and make something like that.
Haha instant pot wine, that sounds like trouble.
Yay someone having shitty opinions and being punished for it.

This is so sweet - and way more memorable than any advent calendar I ever had. (My mom, bless her, usually bought ours about a week into December when they went on sale... if we got them at all.) I can imagine you passing this on to Eleanor someday when she moves out on her own :)
