Birthday Fun

One of my best friends turned 40 a few weeks ago and had a birthday party so I got all dolled up and braved the -40 weather to celebrate with them. And I thought I’d gotten some decent outfit shots because I honestly felt like a million bucks this night – my hair was in good shape (and that NEVER happens with my hair) and my red eyeshadow looked killer and I loved my velvet dress – but I sort of really hate all the photos I got. Literally, this is a best one. And that’s a bummer (there’s, of course, also the possibility that I didn’t look as a great as I felt but I refuse to even entertain that idea; I felt great and so I looked great and I’m 100% convinced of that; also I objectively had fun, as this other photo suggests).

I hate it when photos don't accurately depict how amazing I felt and looked! I think you look great though, it's just that lovely blur that comes from indoor photos, haha.

Oh, how frustrating to feel amazing and have that not translate into photos. But then, I guess, sometimes the best things aren't meant to last, just to be wonderful for the brief moment of their existence.

I hat when outfits don't translate into photos - but at the end of the day, how you felt will always be more important than how something looks, and it does look like you had a wonderful time! :)

Happy birthday to your friend!

Hope that your weekend is off to a great start! The cyclone that may have impacted us has moved further offshore which is good news, but we will still have a quiet weekend in case it comes back!

I know you looked fabulous in real life, and I hope these photos don't try to change your memories of that. It all comes down to the light, cameras sadly don't work like our eyes. As much as technology is trying to bridge that gap, there will always be distance between reality and what the camera lens perceives. Velvet especially, it kind of sucks up the light and is tricky to photograph. So from my technically minded mind, I know these photos are a lie, and you were fabulous.

Don't you just hate that? Ahhg. Been there... then again the best part is that you know you rocked it. But yeah we all like a little evidence. Seems like you had a good time :)
