I'm Belatedly Thankful

Today I should be able to pick up my poor broken macbook from the repair shop - which means I can access all the blog photos and material that I have saved on it! Oh, and I get my dissertation back. I'm so so so grateful that there wasn't anything seriously wrong with my computer that a day or two in the repair shop won't fix. Here are a few other things that I'm excited exist in the world:

Organized closets (I cleaned out my closet this weekend and, while it's not nearly as organized as this, it felt damn good to clean out the clutter)

Hints of animal print

Bold animal prints

Animal print heels

Wedges (and more animal print)

I also came across this article about everyone's favorite fashion muse, Alexa Chung. the piece itself in really interesting and it also discusses an upcoming show on PBS which features Alexa basically vintage shopping around the States. It sounds amazingly fun!

Holiday Sparkle

I love some of the pieces in the new J. Crew collection (and the J. Crew store is like a 10 minute walk from where I live which may be a recipe for my impending financial ruin) - everything has a compelling and festive dash of sparkle and glitz to it and I love it!

Light Bright

I'm going to be spending my Thanksgiving (well, not really mine because Canadian Thanksgiving was in October) eating pizza, working on my dissertation, and playing some Mario on my Wii. I know it sounds kind of sad, but I'm sort of looking forward to a low key day. And pizza. And after Thanksgiving Christmas will be fast approaching and that means beautiful lights everywhere!

Have a great holiday everyone!

Red Bows and Interviews

I picked up this red Nicole Miller dress from JC Penney shortly before I left for Canada and I haven’t had much chance to wear it yet. I think it will be a nice fall/winter piece though (how could black tights and boots not look good with this?) What do you think?

In other news, my dormant obsession with bows has reappeared, and it’s full blown this time (images from my weheartitarchive).

And, finally, check out my interview on the awesome blog Burn the Blonde - if you scroll back through the archives of this blog you will find many other great interviews with (and introductions to) some other lovely bloggers and in general Burn the Blonde is just a really cool fashion blog that I’ve been following lately so I encourage you all to check it out!

Chintz

My month long trip home also gave me a chance to do some shopping with my wonderful mother and we hit up Chintz and Company, which has some absolutely amazing interior design items in it. Here are a few of the photos I snapped from our afternoon together. I may have a chandelier fetish.

Whyte Days and Orca Nights

While in Edmonton I couldn’t resist paying a visit to Whyte Avenue and the Old Strathcona area, one of Edmonton’s historic districts. Whyte Avenue features a plethora of cool shops (lots of vintage ones in which I indulged rather heavily) and restaurants and lovely architecture. I had a fantastic afternoon!

Later I did a little vogueing in the ludicrous whale hat I bought from the Vancouver Aquarium. Call me crazy but I think this hat totally works on me.

Homeward Bound

I’ve spent the better part of my time in the Edmonton International Airport (that’s right, my month long sojourn in Edmonton is over but I had a major disaster on the way home that involved a flight delayed for 90 minutes, the possibility of an overnight stint in Minneapolis and me galloping at full speed through a crowded airport to make my connection – which I did and they had wifi on the plane so I’m actually blogging at 30,000 feet right now) falling in love with this etsy store

I love love love so many of the items up for grabs here - like this!

I find myself really drawn to Victorian images and themes lately.

And while I was in Vancouver I spent like an hour in the Fluevog shoe, excitedly trying the shoes of my dreams – the Griffith Park. If it’s the last thing I do, I will own a pair of these bad boys.

Orca Attack

While I was in Vancouver I purchased this rather ridiculous orca whale hat. Then I wore it on the plane back to Edmonton and rather thoroughly made an ass out of myself. At least the rest of my flying ensemble was pretty tame. Jeans: F21, boots: Thom Brown, top: Target, vest: H&M, necklace: ModCloth, jacket: H&M, hat: Vancouver Aquarium

Artistic Sensibilities

While in Edmonton I paid a visit to the brand new (and beautifully designed) Alberta Gallery of Art (they just redesigned the whole thing and made it into a world class exhibition space). The gallery, in addition to their regular collections, was featuring a Matisse exhibition and I spent an amazing afternoon wandering through the various galleries and delighting in the architectural whimsy of the space.

Jacket: H&M, scarf: NYC street vendor, shoes: F21

I also think I may still be under the influence of that bizarre performance art piece (the one with the Barbie dolls) I attended a month or so ago because this was my artistic inspiration for the day. All images from my weheartit archive.
