Kevala

Introducing Sartorial Sidelines’ newest partner: Kevala! Translated from Sanskrit, Kevala means “only,” and it signifies the company’s absolute commitment to uniqueness. Working directly with emerging designers around the world, Kevala introduces new fashion talent (including gorgeous designs from Shrooms, Michelle Rodrigues, Atithi Gupta, and Amrich) to style-hungry shoppers who refuse to blend in. The result is an original collection of pieces unavailable elsewhere. The designers that showcases are chosen for their imaginative skill, each one using rare fabrics and finely honed techniques (and the result is a stunning collection of pieces). Here’s a sampling of a few of the fabulous items available.

Loves of my Life

My pride and joy (now, am I referring to the leopard print manicure or my two imitations YSL Arty rings?).

I'm Something of a Seamstress

I stumbled into a Target last year and found this great skirt with a stripe pattern in rich chocolaty hues for a very, very low price provided I was willing to fix a loose hem. And I was. And that is the extent of my sewing skills – hems and buttons.

Erdem Pre-Fall 2012

Erdem Pre-Fall, 2012. Gorgeous.

This Sunday I am leaving Connecticut for an on-campus interview for an assistant professor position! While I am not so unrealistic as to think that I will actually get a tenure track job my first year on the market (I mean it happens sometimes but it's the dream, not usually the reality), I am so thrilled that there was interest enough in me as a candidate to warrant being flown out to a university. I plan to try to keep up with blogging while I am away but I am in for an insane few days of giving lectures, campus tours, meeting with grad students, having dinners and receptions with various faculty members, and meeting other campus bigwigs that I am not sure how much free time I will actually have. So wish me luck and send good thoughts and I will catch you all on the flip side!

Addiction

How many different bits of leopard print can you see here? Yup, it’s official, I have a problem; a leopard print problem.

Western Civilization

I wore this a few days ago for a Western-Civilization-syllabus-Design all day marathon … there’s something about leopard print, a satchel, and an over-sized blazer that makes me weak in the knees and able to carry on with the syllabus design.

Oddest Post Title Yet: Fur and the PRB

What’s the perfect accessory for the bleakness of winter? A little dash of faux fur of course!

Anyone else a Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood super fan? Well, feast your eyes on this editorial from the December 2011 edition of American Vogue featuring Saoirse Ronan posed in beautifully PRB-evocative shots by Steven Meisel.

And a few of my favorite PRB masterpieces … stunning.

Twirl

This dress was my reward to myself after making it through my two recent job interviews at the AHA in Chicago … this and wine and a delicious veggie burger.

Blue Bagging It

What’s better than a new skirt? How about one that’s custom made for you by the awesome Laura of the Shop of Worldly Delights.

Oh Make Me Over

Seriously, any Hole fans? Nevermind.

I get a lot of mileage out of my makeup brushes and recently decided it was time to treat myself to a new set – and because I love things that are black and that sparkle (and because the case can double as a clutch), I opted for this Sonia Kashuk for Target set. And I couldn’t be happier.

I am also coveting the clean lines and tailored looks from this editorial from Dressed to Kill magazine. I give you the Principles of Lust, featuring Kristina Romanoz, styled by Julien Alleyne and shot by Kinya. C’est bon.

Once Again, I Think I Just Blue Myself

I recently picked up this blue top at the Clinton Crossing Outlets just outside of New Haven – I love the color, the weight of the fabric, and the fact that it both looks professional under my suit and can be paired with some boots, a pair of skinny jeans, and my faux leather jacket for a more relaxed look.
