When Comfort Reigns

I wore this over the weekend to do a little thrifting – I find I really need to be comfy and casual when I’m ripping through the racks at my local Savers and Goodwill.

Frozen

I don’t know why, but I was seriously freezing for most of the day yesterday. It called for a scarf and semi-warm jacket. I also layered a long sleeved top under my dress for good measure. And I found a little necktie kicking around my closet that I thought would look cute paired with this dress.

Anyone have any exciting weekend plans? I'm heading out this evening for some dinner and drinks with friends, followed by a double date at the movies tomorrow, and then a champagne birthday brunch on Sunday. I am very much looking forward to all these things.

Problem Solver, Part II

Remember that sequin collared dress from ModCloth that I mentioned a few weeks back? Well, I found another way to wear it – layered under a dress so that the darling collar and the sheer sleeves show. I also tossed in a vintage brooch at the neck as a collar clasp for good measure and then added from boots with an edgy zipper detail to toughen things up a bit. I love me a good mix of classic feminine details and harder pieces.

I'm a Doctor!!!!!

Spring on the Yale campus is a beautiful sight – it’s a truly gorgeous campus and I took some time last week to take a lengthy walk around.

For those of you who don't follow me on Facebook or Twitter, last night I received word that my dissertation was voted on in a faculty meeting yesterday afternoon and I am officially a Doctor!!!!! Six long years later and I am poised to graduate in May with a shiny PhD. Needless to say, I am beyond happy.

Refused

My weekend in Philly was amazing and the conference went swimmingly! I hope everyone else had a good/productive/fun weekend. Because I can’t ever seem to sit still for longer than a few minutes, I am off to NYC tomorrow afternoon for a little window shopping, some dinner and drinks with friends, and then to see one of my favorite bands EVER perform: Refused!!!! I am super excited and tingling with anticipation. Because things have been so crazy over the last week, these photos from around my birthday never made it onto the blog. And hey, better late than never right?

Philly Bound

I’m leaving this afternoon for a conference in Philly (and hopefully a little exploration of the city will be possible) so it seemed appropriate to share some snaps from my trip to DC in late March for, you guessed it, another conference.

Riding the rails on the way to DC

I wasn't aware it needed saving. Regardless, this was the conference I wished I was attending

On my way to dinner in DC

A little after dinner stroll to the White House

The interior of my hotel: American panopticon

The conference program

 That's me!

I was able to fit in a stroll around the Capitol Building grounds

Outside the Folger Shakespeare Library - back in 2009 I lived in DC for three months and did research here for my dissertation

I hope everyone has a great weekend – wish me luck with my last ever conference paper as a graduate student!

And, to help make your weekend a fashionable one, don't forget that I'm looking to do some major clearing out of the Blog Shop over the next two months. I am really trying to clean it out before I move to Canada (less to pack and all that jazz) so, if you see something you like, shoot me an email and maybe we can negotiate a price that's lower than the one currently listed. So I can move some stock and you can get some big, big savings. Everybody wins!

Red Gold

I recently picked up this gorgeous skirt at my local Savers. There are few things I find as enjoyable as killing a Saturday afternoon in a thrift shop. Especially when I find treasures like this.
