Sea Foam

I bought this sea foam green dress in Vegas. Mostly because I loved the colour and thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to add a few things to my closet that weren't black. I'm pretty happy with my purchase – I was a bit unsure about the hemline at first but it's definitely growing on me.

And yeah, I know these photos are terrible quality....it was dark outside when I took them and the lighting is just god awful. I guess that just means I'll have to wear the dress again soon!

Movie Date

Worn to a movie date – a glass of wine, a show, and then another glass of wine or two with my helpmeet. A pretty laid back and nice Saturday night!

All the Frills: Floral Freshness

Because nothing beats some fresh flowers in the house!

Utterly relatedly, I'm starting to plan my Halloween costume (because Halloween is my Christmas and the thing I look forward to all year). I really, really want to someone use this gorgeous sea foam green bob wig that I recently acquired but am at a total loss as to what sort of costume this might go with. Do any of you have any ideas? Please, leave me suggestions in the comments!

More Summer, More Black

My favourite all black summer outfit makes another appearance (I find when it gets really hot I basically wear a series of permutations of this outfit; boring, perhaps, but it’s working for me and I’m too damn irritable in the heat to give much of a damn). Guys, I am not a summer person.

I'm Both Alive and Having a Good Hair Day - Take That Universe!

Worn to work on one of my first days back after Vegas. I think I look shockingly good for a woman who basically feels half dead (seriously, I was up until 4 am playing blackjack on more than one occasion on that trip)!

All the Frills: Books!

The pile of things that I’m currently reading. I’m absolutely loving Bad Feminist. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it.

Do you read multiple things at a time?

Exasperation

In case you haven’t noticed, I do not give up on my black clothes in the summer (seriously, it was 44 degrees when I was in Vegas and I packed nothing but black!).

In other news, I just got back from a 4-day work trip in eastern Canada and I am completely mentally and physically drained. It was the most frustrating and exasperating work-related thing I think I've ever experienced. Not to mention that the trip itself was just a nightmare - one of those things where everything that could go wrong did (I forgot to pack some things I needed, the place I was staying was not pedestrian friendly so even the simple act of trying to find a store to buy my missing toiletries turning in a two hour death march in 30 degree heat, I got caught in a rainstorm and soaked and hadn't packed any extra clothes, the flight home got delayed and I had a lot of anxiety about missing my connector flight, etc, etc). So I will be resolutely taking it easy for the next week!

All the Frills: New Accessories

I treated myself to a necklace from Stella & Dot earlier this month --- and I am completely smitten with it. Lately I find myself gravitating toward very simple, almost minimalist accessories, and this piece is just a perfect example of that.

Party Time!

I spent the last couple of days working on a few remaining book edits before I ship the revised manuscript off to the press once again. These were all just minor clean-up edits (nothing like the HUGE and DRAINING redrafting of 4 chapters that I was occupied with from December 15 to April 15). I wore this out for a drink at the end of the process as a celebratory outfit. Nothing says “party” to me like grey and black…

Me, Being Ridiculous

It really wouldn’t be summer without me parading like a ridiculous goth. Seriously though, I actually don’t find wearing black to really be uncomfortable or overly hot at all in the summer. It’s mostly just about the fabric and fit choices, rather than the colour itself.

All the Frills: Elizabethan

I’m pretty sure I picked up this miniature bust of Elizabeth I the last time I was in London, but I honestly don’t remember for sure. All I know is that it’s one of my favourite little decorative pieces. I absolutely adore it.

Tried and True

Now this is definitely an outfit that’s more “me.” No surprises here: it’s black, it’s a bit shiny, it has a pop of colour. Yeah, that’s me.
