I Wish I Were at a Resort

It’s official, the terrible heat and humidity that is New Haven weather appears to have started. To make it worse, it’s hot and humid and rainy and just all over ugh. Furthermore, I’m knee-deep in deadlines (2 conference papers to write, a job market portfolio to compile, and a book review that I was commissioned to write – and the book turns out to be almost 1,000 pages long so that’s going to take me a while). This weekend my big and exciting plans are to hunker down on campus and later at home with a bottle of wine and work like a maniac. But I also hope to have some time for a stroll around New Haven because even though it is rainy, it’s still pretty with all the summer greenery and stunning architecture and flowers ever where I look. Actually, it makes me kind of miss New Haven from about two months ago when it wasn’t terrible humid and some of the remnants of winter were still around. Here are a few shots I snapped back in April as I wander around desperate to postpone work for another hour (I swear, I won’t do that this weekend).

Looks like my favorite writer has a new book out!

I also wanted to share with you a few of my favorite looks from two 2012 resort collections: Alexander McQueen (helmed by the amazingly talented Sarah Burton of course) and Marc by Marc Jacobs. Burton’s collection featured all the elegance and quirky details that one would expect of a McQueen collection while Jacobs’ collection featured a fun of flirty frocks and kicky shorts in both bold monochromatic looks and some fun patterns. Anyways, here are a few of my favorite looks from both.

Courtney, sounds like you've got the next week (or two) planned out already! Just make sure to take a mo in between papers to chillax. I love the pics of New Haven that you've posted. It's making me want to actually visit the place!

And lurve the Marc Jacobs resort wear! The polka dot number is just sweet!

These pictures are lovely.
I know what you mean about the heat. It was SO hot last week, and now it is absolutely gorgeous outside. I do not want to go back to that hot, sticky, swamp ass weather. But I know it's coming. And I am sad.

If I ever had any doubts or misgivings about Ms. Burton being able to carry on the McQueen name, those are gone now. This woman was REALLY paying attention while working with him. I admit, I still hold my breath, waiting to be disappointed by her, but she hasn't let me down. This collection is STUNNING.

And, hold on a second, this that your campus?! Your LIBRARY?! That, looks like heaven to me. Straight up. I LOVE books, and I LOVE libraries, and this is...amazing! I swear, in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, my favorite scene is the castle's library.
Love it.
Awesome post!

Marc Jacobs has perfect mix between the classic, the comfy and the modern. I always admired those designers who can keep the classic and put a little modern into an outfit.
McQueen??? speechless, I want the firs dress.
I'm jealous, you have such an nice surroundings regardless of the weather.
Hope you enjoy your weekend (despite of ..... )

Oh my goodness... so much to say, where do I begin? THAT ARCHITECTURE! Whoa. And the library shelves? I think I need to go on a North American road trip whenever I get off this island! I don't know how you could get any work done with such distractions surrounding you.

Secondly! That Marc by Marc Jacobs is sooooo good. I'm a sucker for patterns and lace... however that model is slightly terrifying. McQueen goes without saying.

i really like that you have seasons in New Haven though. Here in Arizona it's just 105 degrees all the time.

The McQueen collection is stunning, and the Marc Jacobs collection is just so beautiful and wearable. Love both!

Good luck with your busy weekend!

BAHAHA I got SUCH a good laugh over the Murder She Wrote book pic, but at the same time I am just as thrilled. And when I saw you were commissioned to write the book review, I thought, "Oh how cool!" and when I saw it was 1,000+ pg's I thought "Oh how CRUEL." Good luck with all that... :)
