Rain, Rain Go Away

Sorry for the indoor photo but it looked like rain outside and I got spooked. And rightly so, because it’s raining cats and dogs. I don’t like getting caught in the rain. And I look very dour in the photos. Sorry. Anyways, this is a pretty simple teaching look – some fitted black pants, a brightly colored silk tank, and a blazer. Easy, comfy, and professional looking.

Teaching my first section last night on ancient Greek history was a bit of an experience … I was locked out of the building where my classroom was because I taught at 7 pm and it was all locked up for the day by the time I got there. So it took me about 30 minutes to get inside, waiting outside in the rain for someone to leave the building so I could slip in. Luckily I showed up close to 45 minutes early so I could review my notes before students showed up. Then three out of eleven registered students actually showed up. So we’ll see what happens with that. But the one who turned up were lovely and fun and very bright and so I’m happy with how things are starting off!

And, because I like to show you all pretty things, here are a few of my favorite looks from the recent fashion week shows in Sydney.

Also, today is September 7, and I would be a terrible history nerd if I didn’t take the opportunity to point out that, on this day in 1533, the great Elizabeth I was born at Greenwich to the ill-fated Anne Boleyn and the not-yet-entirely-grossly-bloated Henry VIII. So, yeah, today’s got that going for it.

This is my mantle. I am mildly obsessed with Elizabeth I.

You look stellar! I'm glad you didn't leave a class waiting around for you! Being early usually works out for the best.

Only 3/11? what the heck? I'm the type of student who gets super paranoid if I don't attend EVERY single class. Plus, it's such a waste of money to NOT go! GAH-- that just makes me mad.

Looking profesh though, there, Courtney.

Very chic look, great for the first class IMO. If I had $ for every time I've been locked out of buildings/classrooms...well, I'd have $8.

You should see how bad I was in history when I was in school, after I graduated from HS my curiosity 'woke up' and now I enjoy it more thanks to my mom who loves it.
I am adoring the dress from Stolen Girlfriend Club ... gorgeous.

I've had enough already with this rain. I think its like Day 3 of almost continuous rain here, I'm not sure if it has been the same there?

Yay for your first day of teaching and glad you liked the 3 students that did show. I hope the rest of the students show for your next class and that it is easier to get in the building next time. That is silly that they don't leave instructions or a door unlocked for the evening classes.

I keep forgetting that it is September for whatever reason. I wish I could go back in time to witness history, especially the Tudor period and I would love to see what Anne Boleyn looked like and see Elizabeth rule.

I love your little shrine, its kind of bad ass, just like Elizabeth was.

That blue looks amazing on you. And I love that dramatic red dress. I would have been freaking out if I couldn't have gotten in the building. How did the students manage to get inside? Glad to hear your first day teaching your Greek class went well.

Your first day teaching outfit looks great. I always reach for a blazer on the first day as well. Happy Birthday Elizabeth I!

Is that really your mantle- how fab. I liked Elizabeth 1 too but not as much I guess. She changed the course of history more than a lot of kings did before her.

You look beautiful- I think royal blue is my favourite colour on you! If you love Queen Elizabeth than you would love my hairbrush holder- I will have to send you a photo! Only keeners ever show up for the first class so I'm sure you'll have more students next week!

Love your whole look. I do have a love for Elizabeth and her life and times. As a designer I sometime incorporate touches of some of the costume glam she left behind . . .
